About the artist Hayley Porter has held an interest in art throughout her life beginning in her early years when her mediums consisted of crayons and chalk on the concrete in her family’s backyard only to be washed away by the rain. As she grew up her passion for art expanded into various mediums such as acrylic paint, oil pastels, and oil paint as she tried to find a medium that would suit her. And while she experimented with various mediums her life began to take shape her subject matter began to reflect her need for an escape from reality into a mental haven to collect her thoughts and differentiate her vision from society’s norms.
Throughout her evolution as an artist, Porter begins a piece of artwork by sketching her ideas on paper with graphite in order to map out her ideas into distinguishable images. After developing concepts and sketching, she focuses on color theory and combines contrasting warm and cool color tones to convey her messages in each piece. When she feels that her painting can express her sentiments on its own she allows the paint to dry and watches the dust settle while society shuffles on. From her earliest temporary chalk doodles on the sidewalk to her more contemporary pieces such as “Formal” Porter has matured both as an artist and as a person, and hopes to continue painting as her life progresses. And with each painting, Porter invites her viewers to step into the world of a lush, beautiful landscape and enjoy her work. She began an education in art in fall 2008 under the instruction of Myron Stephens at GBHS Art Academy. |
